From Pernia Qureshi to 'Noor' in Jaanisaar

Mumbai, July 30 (IBNS): Pernia Qureshi is all set to make her grand Bollywood debut in Muzaffar Ali’s period drama - 'Jaanisaar', where she plays the role of a courtesan.

For her character as Noor who is deeply patriotic, she was required to train in various fields from dance to fight, to deliver her scenes perfectly.

Speaking about the preparation Pernia said, “Noor is graceful yet tough in nature. She is enchanting as a courtesan and brave as a freedom fighter. I trained for the dance sequences under one of the best Gurus, Kumudini Lakhia. I also trained in intensive martial arts and learnt basic horse riding to keep up with fight scenes. I must say, though it was exhausting to juggle between all these equally demanding skills, it was totally worth the effort.”

She said, “Muzaffar Uncles teaching methods are brilliant. He used to often call me over for dinner and share his knowledge about the pre-independence period, which the film is set in. We would indulge in long chats about the characters, the culture and the habits of the time. Unknowingly I found myself becoming familiar with the character and learning everything I would need to in order to bring out the Noor in me.”

‘Jaanisaar’ is a period drama starring the gorgeous Pernia Qureshi and Pakistani heartthrob Imran Abbas Naqvi in lead roles.

Set 20 years after the first war of Indian independence in 1857, the film essays the love story of a revolutionary courtesan of Avadh, and a prince brought up in England.

‘Jaanisaar’ is directed by Muzaffar Ali of cult classic Umrao Jaan fame and produced by Meera Ali. The film is set for release on Aug 7.
