Mumbai: Several Twitterati have criticised iconic singer Lata Mangeshkar who has recently said internet sensation Ranu Mondal's instant success won't last long if she continues to imitate her.

Mangeshkar told media she is happy for Ranu who has got fame singing the legendary singer's songs but also said only imitation would deny the internet sensation a long-term success.

One Prashank Pant tweeted, "Not a single word of appreciation for the poor lady who wanted nothing but two square meals for singing a song. such shallowness is not expected from a person of this stature and age as Lataji."

"#LataMangeshkar ko kuchh kehena “Chirag ko roshni Dikhana” Meri galti maaf kariyga Lata ji lekin Ranu Mondal wasn’t an aspiring singer.she used 2 sing ur song as fan&love 2wards music God helped her,she got fame.even if it’s 4 a while.enuf 4 her" SH Teena Singh said.

In a sharp criticism, one user in the name of bharat gandhi, said, "The great #LataMangeshkar has never allowed any lady singer to succeed in Bollywood and even at this age she still wants to cling on to her image as a nightingale. We Indians have always made gods with feet of clay whether in politics or sports or arts."

Aakash Sur said, "#LataMangeshkar Even srk & Amit ji started their career by imitating other Actor! You said about Kumar sanu.Sonu ji..go ask them! And #ranumandal is untrained ,and she is not here to be part of dirty competition of btown! You could have been little more gracious in your comment!"

Ranu's success story can partially be credited to 26-year old engineer Atindra Charkraborty. Chakraborty had shared on social media a video in which homeless Ranu was seen singing Ek Pyaar Ka Nagma Hai at Ranaghat station in West Bengal.

After the video went viral, Ranu was offered a song by Himesh in his album.

The first song which was sung by Ranu was Teri Meri. Later she sang another song titled as Aadat for Himesh.
