Kolkata/IBNS: Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty was discharged from hospital on Monday afternoon.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader asserted to the reporters that he was "absolutely fine" and would soon resume shooting for upcoming films.

Chakraborty suffered a brain stroke on Saturday morning after which he was admitted at a private hospital in Kolkata.

Coming out of the hospital, he told reporters: "I am fine. There is actually no problem. I have to keep control of my food habits. I eat like a demon whenever I am in Kolkata. Let's see; I may start working soon, maybe tomorrow."

"I want to tell all people, especially those who have diabetics, please keep control of your food habits," he said.

Confirming that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had telephoned him during his hospital stay, Chakraborty said: "He scolded me for not taking care of my health."

Bengal BJP leaders Sukanta Majumdar, Dilip Ghosh, and Suvendu Adhikari visited him at the hospital.

Chakraborty, a National Award-winning actor, was busy shooting for Bengali film Shastri alongside senior actress Debasree Roy. The two are working together on a film after 14 years.

His last film Kabuliwala, which is based on Rabindranath Tagore's short story, was released on Christmas last year.

The 73-year-old actor was recently honoured with Padma Bhushan, which is the third-highest civilian award by the Government of India.

Chakraborty is still a member of the country's ruling BJP, the political outfit, which he joined in 2021 in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
