Kolkata/IBNS: The music of director Arindam Sil's upcoming Bengali film Mahananda, which is based on the life and works of late writer-social activist Mahasweta Devi, was launched on Monday.

Produced by Firdausal Hasan and Probal Halder, the film features actress Gargee Roy Chowdhury who essays Mahasweta Devi on screen.

Besides Roy Chowdhury, Mahananda features Ishaa Saha, Debshankar Halder, Arna Mukhopadhyay in key roles.

While Bickram Ghosh is the music director of the film, Iman Chakraborty, Sahana Bajpaie, Dipannita Acharya and Timir Biswas sang distinct songs.

The singers have also performed live during the music launch on Monday.

Speaking on why he opted to make a film inspired by Devi's life and not a biopic, Sil said, "I found it was not possible to capture her life completely and make a biopic. What I could do is speak about her ideologies and morals."

The film is slated for Apr 8 release.
