Raj Chakroborty's tryst with centuries old 'Roopkatha' tales of Bengal
Kolkata, Feb 23 (IBNS) In a break from the mega urban relationship tales on the telly, film director Raj Chakroborty now brings back the lost magic of children's folk tales of Bengal as producer.
"Bedeni Moluyar Kwatha", having the flavour of centuries-old popular 'Bengoma-Bengomi' and 'Hattimatimtim' , will wean away the children addicted to Potter and 'The Lord of the Rings' to the glorious treasure trove of our own folk fantasies, Raj, having delivered a string of big screen hits including Katmundu, tells IBNS during an on-location visit.
Raj is the producer of the serial aired on Zee Bangla.
"It is a simple, very easy to follow type of tale, which will give the audience a fresh story. We have to string a good story. A break from the digital romance we get to see these days. The timeless fantasy which we adults will identify with our account of the Thakurmar Jhuli and the new generation instantly like with no stone unturned to give it technical polish," he says.
About imparting the 'Rupkatha' touch to the whole production, Raj says, "We have recreated two sets - of a village of the bedeni and a king's palace - besides having done outdoor shot in some parts of picturesque Chiragura in Purulia district. These days budget can't be any constraint for quality serial or films."
About the dialogue in the film, which has its settings in south Bengal districts, he says, "We haven't given priority to any language. It's a mix of dialects of all the districts since it is meant for audiences in different parts. Had we stuck to the dialect of Purulia, other audiences won't be able to follow the nuances entirely."
"It is a revenge drama, as such tales appear to be more gripping for our audiences. The story in the backdrop of a kingdom and a snake charming tribe bringing forth an eternal romantic tale and the protagonist snake-charmer Malua countering the evil forces," he says.
To a question about fantasy tales becoming the toast of the telly season with 'Janbaaz Sindbad' aired on Zee TV, and Kiranmala on another channel, Raj says, "let there be more such stories. But we will enjoy the highest TRP. My productions had given many hits on small screen, it will be the same again."
