Spiritual leader Ravi Shankar watches Padmaavat, lends support

Bengaluru, Jan 19 (IBNS): Lending significant support to Sanjay Leela Bhansali's much debated opus Padmaavat, spiritual leader and founder of the Art of Living Foundation, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar watched the movie at a special screening at his Bengaluru ashram.

According to reports, Ravi Shankar has liked the movie.

He was accompanied by Bhansali himself.

"Spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar ji watched #Padmaavat at a special screening along with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Mahaveer Jain and Shobha Sant [of Bhansali Productions] at the Art Of Living Bengaluru... The spiritual leader loved the film,"film critic and business analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.

After days of surviving threats from caste groups, Padmaavat received a shot in the arm on Thursday following the Supreme Court's verdict.

The apex court lifted a ban, imposed by six BJP-ruled states, on the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial film.

Despite the clearance by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), the ban was imposed by Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Gujarat- all ruled by the BJP.

However, BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh did not impose any ban on the film.

The  movie has been mired into controversy after several fringe groups, mostly Shri Rajput Karni Sena, accused the  film maker of distorting history and portraying Rani Padmini in poor light in the movie.

The CBFC has announced that Ranveer Singh-Deepika Padukone starrer film will be issued a U/A certificate.

The CBFC suggested the makers of the film to change the title to 'Padmavat'.

The film is expected to hit the big screens on Jan 25. Earlier it was slated to release on Dec 1, 2017.

Apart from Deepika, the film features Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in lead roles.
