Babar Azam returns as Pakistan's white-ball captain

Pakistan cricket star Babar Azam was named the country's white-ball skipper, months after he quit from the top post after his squad's poor show in the 50-over World Cup held in India last year.

Pakistan Cricket Board posted on X: "@babarazam258 to lead Pakistan men's team in white-ball cricket."

Pakistan failed to reach the knockout stage of the showpiece tournament, prompting Babar to relinquish his task.

Shaheen Afridi was named T20 skipper following Babar's resignation.

Shan Masood was made Pakistan's Test skipper.

Pakistan Cricket Board said following a unanimous recommendation from the PCB’s selection committee, Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi appointed Babar Azam as white-ball (ODI and T20I) captain of the Pakistan men's cricket team.

Under Shaheen's leadership, Pakistan suffered a 4-1 defeat in the T20 series in New Zealand this year.

Babar will resume his new role with a five-match home T20 series against New Zealand next month.

He will face the real challenge in June when Pakistan will face the rest of the world in its fight to reclaim the T20 World Cup.
