London, July 12 (IBNS): Swiss Tennis star Roger Federer's hope of winning another Wimbledon title was dashed when he lost his quarter-final clash against eighth seed Kevin Anderson here on Wednesday.

Federer started the game in his own pace and got early leads but the South African fought back to end the match in his favour.

Defending champion Federer was aiming to record-equal a ninth singles title.

The South African defeated his opponent 2-6 6-7 (5-7) 7-5 6-4 13-11.

The match lasted for four hours and 13 minutes.

"Matches like that are very special - beating Roger is one I am going to remember, but hopefully there are two more matches still to play," Anderson told BBC.
