Saraikela-Kharsawan, May 20 (UNI) An encounter took place between the security forces and the ultras belonging to the CPI (Maoists) under Kharsawan Police Station area of this district in which three jawans were injured.

On July 30, 2016, Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres abducted and killed Vooraka Maraiah (45), a pastor, branding him as a 'Police informer', at Lakshmipuram village under the Nellipaka mandal (administrative unit) of the East Godavari District. Maraiah's body was found with hands tied at the back, bearing stab and bullet wounds, along with a letter in which the Maoists charged him with not heeding to their warning to mend his ways. He "accumulated wealth disproportionately. As Maraiah started exploiting the poor tribal people and the needy, we punished him in the people's court," the letter alleged. The Maoists also warned a host of other village leaders allegedly involved in "unlawful" activities and asked them to cut off their ties with the Police.

A group of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) cadres on April 10, 2016, killed a villager, identified as Manju Guntha (32), under the Pottangi Police Station limits in the Koraput District by slitting his throat. Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) B.V. Rao said that the Maoists reached Manju's house and asked him to come out. They later took him to a nearby forest and killed him. It has not been established why Guntha was killed.

Sukma (Chhattisgarh), Dec 2 (IBNS): Maoist rebels who ambushed a paramilitary patrol in Chhattisgarh killing 14 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans on Monday allegedly used villagers as human shields during the attack so that the soldiers could not retaliate, media reports said.
