Chennai, Dec 2 (IBNS) The Chennai airport was shut, a bridge on the river Adyar closed as heavy rains, worst in 100 years, continued to batter parts of Tamil Nadu and its state capital on Wednesday crippling normal life while defence personnel swung into a massive rescue and relief operation battling with the unprecedented natural calamity.

New Delhi, Dec 2 (IBNS) Two Flood Rescue and Relief Columns of the Indian Army comprising of troops from the Garrison Infantry Battalion and Army's Engineer elements have begun flood rescue and relief operations in Tambaram, Mudichur, Manipakam, Guduvancheri and Urapakkam areas of Chennai since Tuesday evening following requisition by the Tamil Nadu government, reports said.
