Countering Durga Puja carnival, doctors' platform organises mega rally demanding justice for RG Kar victim in Kolkata

In a rare instance, Kolkata Tuesday stood witness to a massive protest rally in demand of justice for the RG Kar victim on a day when the magnanimous Durga Puja carnival was being held on Red Road. The rally was organised by the Joint Platform of Doctors as a counter to Mamata Banerjee's Durga Puja Carnival and was named 'Droher Carnival' (a carnival to rebel).(Images by Avishek Mitra/IBNS)

Like every year, Kolkata bid adieu to some of the famous and revered Durga Puja idols across the city with much pomp and merry through the mega carnival organised by the Bengal government on Friday. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was present at the event as several popular puja organisers displayed their tableau showcasing the idols and cultural performances at the Red Road in presence of hundreds of spectators. Several celebrities from the Tollywood film industry like Prosenjit Chatterjee, Dev and Rituparna Sengupta were also in attendance at the grand carnival.
