South Sudan: First UN safe haven for displaced civilians closes

New York, Dec 21(Just Earth News): The first ‘Protection of Civilians’ site – a place of refuge and safety set up next to a United Nations base in South Sudan – has been successfully closed after internally displaced families expressed the desire and confidence to return to their homes, the UN mission in the country said Wednesday.

New York, Apr 30 (IBNS): The United Nations refugee agency is preparing to airlift relief supplies to South Sudan on Tuesday for 100,000 displaced people ahead of the rainy season, while the top UN relief official there is calling for a month-long truce to enable people to move around safely and cultivate their fields.

New York, Apr 23 (IBNS): Confirming that children were killed in South Sudan during recent brutal attacks on displaced civilians or as a result of being recruited by armed groups, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) warned on Tuesday that the surging violence is exacerbating an already "very dangerous" malnutrition crisis.
