New Delhi/IBNS: Amid the worsening condition of the Covid situation in India, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has barred the entry of travellers from the Asian country for 10 days.

The ban will remain in place from April 25 to May 4 (both days included).

Indian travellers who arrive in UAE, even as transit passengers, will have to stay in some other country for at least 14 days during this period.

Abu Dhabi-based Etihad says this restriction period “may be extended".

"Travel Alert: Effective 25 April 2021, all flights from India to the UAE have been suspended for a period of 10 days," Etihad Airways said in a tweet.

Cargo flights will continue to operate in both directions without any impact, the airlines said.

India reported the world's highest-ever single-day surge with 3,14,835 new cases, pushing the total infections to 1,59,30,965, Union Health Ministry data reported on Thursday.

According to the United States Centers for Disease Control (USCDC), the new cases are the highest single-day rise reported anywhere in the world. The highest yet for the USA was +3,13,310 on January 8, 2021.

In yet another record, 2,104 deaths were reported in the past 24 hrs, taking the overall death toll to 1,84,657.
