14 killed, over 120 injured as Russian drones strike shopping centre in Zelenskyy's hometown

Regional Governor Oleksandr Hanzha said 22 children were among those wounded in the daytime attack.

Of the injured, 29 people were in serious condition, including five children, he said in a post on Telegram.

Hanzha also shared an image showing thick black smoke rising from a large industrial building following the strikes.

Second drone hit shopping centre

Zelenskyy condemned the attack, alleging that the second Russian drone struck the shopping centre around 30 minutes after the first in an attempt to target emergency responders arriving at the scene.

Calling the attack "absolutely cynical and despicable", Zelenskyy said strikes of this nature amounted to "terrorist acts".

He urged the international community to hold Russia accountable for the attack.

Russia-Ukraine war intensifies

The latest strike comes as Russia continues to intensify its aerial campaign against Ukraine, with the war approaching its four-and-a-half-year mark.

A day earlier, a Russian ballistic missile attack on Kyiv killed 17 people, according to Ukrainian authorities.

Ukraine has also increased attacks inside Russia, targeting oil facilities and logistics infrastructure as it seeks to weaken Moscow's ability to sustain its military campaign.

The latest escalation underscores the continuing intensity of the conflict, with both sides carrying out increasingly frequent strikes far from the immediate front lines.
