At least three soldiers killed in two attacks on Burkina Faso army positions

Ouagadougou/Xinhua/UNI: At least three Burkina Faso soldiers have lost their lives on Thursday in two attacks by gunmen on army positions in central-north and Sahel regions of the terrorism-torn country, security source told Xinhua.

In Namissiguima locality, in central-north region, gunmen targeted army position, caused extensive damage, went away with equipments of the army and one soldier was killed during the attack, a police source told Xinhua.


In Kelbo locality, in Sahel region, "the attack on military position killed at least two in the rank of the army of Burkina Faso", military officer told Xinhua under the pledge of anonymity.


On Wednesday, at least 17 assailants were killed in an attack on Burkina Faso army position in Arbinda in the Sahel region, whereas on Friday 32 terrorists and one army soldier were killed in fierce fight in central-north and northern regions of the country.


Burkina Faso is faced with a worsening security situation in northern regions with almost daily terrorist attacks that have sparked a wave of panic in the country.


Since 2015, terrorist attacks have claimed the lives of over 500 people including 200 of armed forces soldiers and displaced thousands of others in the west African country.
