Dhaka, Dec 31 (IBNS): In a significant verdict, two accused in the blogger Rajib Haider murder case have been handed death penalty by a Bangladesh court on Thursday, media reports said.

Dhaka Special Trial Tribunal-3 Judge Sayeed Ahmed handed life term jail to another accused, five-year imprisonment for militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team chief Mufti Jashimuddin Rahmani and various jail terms for five others in connection with the murder of the blogger in 2013 that had left the nation shocked.

"Dhaka Special Trial Tribunal-3 Judge Sayeed Ahmed handed down the verdict in presence of seven of the accused. One of the death row convict in on the run," The Daily Star reported.

Rajib Haider's father Dr Nazim Uddin has rejected the verdict.

"I reject the verdict. It has been dictated,” he was quoted as saying by The Daily Star.
