Dhaka: The Bangladesh government on Sunday extended the COVID-19 restrictions by 10 more days till June 16 to keep COVID-19 cases in the country under control.

The decision taken in light of the current state of the pandemic tightens curbs on social gatherings, including weddings, according to a notice issued by the Cabinet Division on Sunday, reports bdnews24.

During the extended restriction period all tourist destinations, resorts, community and recreation centres will remain closed.

Restaurants, however, can continue offering takeaway and online delivery services from 6am to 10 pm. Dine-in services will also be allowed but restaurants must limit entry to half their available seats, reports the Bangladeshi news portal.

Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours, 1,676 people have been infected by the virus.

Another 38 fatalities were registered in a 24-hour count, taking the toll to 12,839, according to the latest government data released on Sunday, reports bdnews24.
