C-Train derails at city's Northwest Tuscany station

Calgary, Sept 20 (IBNS): A Calgary transit CTrain derailed at the city's Northwest Tuscany LRT station just before 7 AM. The transit driver is injured but is in a stable condition.

There were two people on board at the time of the incident but were not injured.

The CTrain derailed after overshooting the end of track and crashed into a barrier. Three cars of the train went off the track.

During the incident the overhead power cables got disengaged and fell on the ground. Enmax crews were able to cut off the power to the cable.

The CTrain operator, a woman in her early 60s, suffered serious injuries, and was transported to the Foothills Medical Center. She is now in a stable condition.

Two other occupants aboard the train were left unhurt. The Calgary Emergency Medical Services (EMS) went from car to car to check if there were any more passengers or injuries.

Traffic was affected during the morning rush hour as police shut down the Crowchild Trail in both directions between 12 Mile Coulee Road and Stoney Trail.

Calgary Transit spokesperson Ron Collins said that the incident has not impacted the CTrain service.

“We are inspecting the incident and trying to determine what actually led the derailment of the train,” Collins added.
