Canada: Equal pay for equal work, new rule for part time employees begins in Ontario

Toronto, Apr 2 (IBNS): Bringing a kind of justice to the part time employees in Ontario, a new rule of equal pay for equal work has been enforced in the province, media reports said.

The new rule came into effect on Apr 1.

The new rule will blur the discrimination between the part time employees and the full time ones in terms of wages.

The new rule is a part of Fair workplaces, Better Jobs Act- the legislation which increased the minimum wage of employees in the province to $14 recently.

According to the new rule, an employer is bound to pay the same amount of money to a part time worker which a full time employee gets if the production of works by both happens to be the same, if they work under same working conditions and the work requires the same skill.

The employees can also go for a review if they feel that they are not getting the justifiable amount as the wage.

The new rule has been enacted keeping the rise of part time workers in the province in mind.

The act also protects the workers from any backlash for inquiring about wages of other workers.
