An Indian student in Canada, who was missing for the past three days, has been found dead, confirmed the Indian Embassy in Ottawa on Tuesday.

A massive search was launched since Vanshika went missing on April 25.

The Indian Embassy said: "We are deeply saddened to be informed of the death of Ms. Vanshika, student from India in Ottawa."

"The matter has been taken up with concerned authorities and the cause is under investigation as per local police," the Embassy said.

"We are in close contact with the bereaved kin and local community associations to provide all possible assistance," the Embassy said.

Several Indian community forums had shared posts on Facebook seeking information about her since she went missing on April 25.

Earlier, India Canada Association, one such forum, posted on Facebook: "Vanshika has been missing since she left her home on Friday, April 25th. It has been over 36 hours since anybody has seen her."

The association said her mobile phone had remained switched off since she went missing.

"Her phone has been off since her disappearance and nobody has been able to get in contact with her," the post said.

Another group named Ottawa Indo-Canadians Association said on its Facebook post that she had left her house in Canada to look for a room for rent.

"Vanshika is usually in regular contact with her family and friends every morning, but since last night, no one has heard from her. All her friends are unaware of her current location," the association said.

According to reports, Vanshika is the daughter of Aam Aadmi Party leader Devinder Singh.

After completing her schooling, she reportedly shifted to Canada two and a half years ago to pursue a diploma course.
