Canada: Tories win more seats in New Brunswick polls; Liberals in race to form govt

Fredericton, Sept 25 (IBNS): The New Brunswick polls ended with no clear results with the Progressive Conservative (PC) party emerging as the largest party but lacking majority on Monday, media reports said.

The PC have clinched 22 seats as opposed to Liberals' 21.

Despite coming second, the Liberals are trying hard to form the provincial government in a minority legislature which formed for the first time in 100 years.

The majority mark in the legislature is 25.

The Green Party, which previously had one seat, increased its tally by two seats. The People's Alliance too won three seats.

Though the Tories claimed victory, both the first and second parties are planning to visit Lt-Gov Jocelyne Roy Vienneau on Tuesday to form government.

PC leader Blaine Higgs has been quoted by CBC News, "As in any race, the one who has the most numbers wins."

On the other hand, Liberal leader Brian Gallant told the media outlet he would talk to Vienneau about working with other smaller parties.
