Deadly mishap or sinister plot? Hindu man fatally shot by colleague in alleged ‘accidental firing’

| @indiablooms | Dec 30, 2025, at 04:37 pm

A 40-year-old Hindu man was shot dead inside a garment factory in Bangladesh, marking the third killing of a member of the community amid recent violence in the country.

The incident occurred around 7:00 pm at Sultana Sweaters Limited, a subsidiary of Labib Group, located in the Mehrabari area of Bhaluka, Mymensingh, according to the Bangladeshi news portal Khaborwala.

The deceased has been identified as Bajendra Biswas.

Local police have apprehended the shooter, identified as Noman Mia, who reportedly fired the weapon accidentally.

Police stated that Biswas was deployed in the factory as a member of the Ansar, a uniformed auxiliary force in Bangladesh, and that the factory employed 20 Ansar personnel to oversee security.

Eyewitnesses said that Bajendra and Noman were seated together when a firearm in Noman’s possession discharged accidentally, striking Biswas in the left shoulder. He was rushed to Bhaluka Upazila Health Complex, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Officer-in-Charge Md. Zahidul Islam of Bhaluka Model Police Station confirmed the incident and said that police responded promptly and took Noman into custody. Investigators are examining whether the shooting was purely accidental or if there was any underlying motive. The victim’s body has been sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.

The killing comes amid a spike in attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh, particularly following the death of anti-India radical leader Sharif Osman Hadi. In recent weeks, two Hindu youths were lynched in separate incidents, drawing widespread condemnation.

In Mymensingh district, a Hindu youth, Dipu Chandra Das, was allegedly lynched by a mob, and his body was set on fire. Another incident involved Amrit Mondal, also known as Samrat, who was reportedly beaten to death by local residents following accusations of extortion. These incidents have raised serious concerns over law and order and the safety of religious minorities in the country.
