Donald Trump blames US foolishness for poor ties with Russia
Washington, July 16 (IBNS): US President Donald Trump has said that America's ties with Moscow have "NEVER been worse", before his first ever summit with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
In a tweet, Trump detested the former US President Barack Obama for his, "stupidity" and "rigged" enquiry made into the 2016 presidential elections where Russian interference was alleged.
Helsinki, the Finnish capital, is set to host the summit on Monday.
Trump tweeted, "Our relationship with Russia has NEVER been worse thanks to many years of U.S. foolishness and stupidity and now, the Rigged Witch Hunt!"
Some politicians in the US had appealed for the meeting to be cancelled after 12 Russians were charged by the US Department of Justice for hacking and launching a cyber-attack during the 2016 presidential elections.
In the tweet, Trump laid the entire blame of America's worsening relations with Russia on the US domestic forces.
Trump had earlier criticised the allies of the US in Europe over military spending and trade.
US' main tensions with Russia originates from the latter's actions in Ukraine as well as Moscow's support for Syrian president Bashar al-Assad.
Diplomatic relations between the US and Syria have been suspended in 2012, following the start of the Syrian Civil War.
Tensions have further escalated because of the alleged Russian inteference in the US 2016 Presidential elections, whose inquiry has been criticised by Trump as being a, "witch hunt."
"President Obama thought that Crooked Hillary was going to win the election, so when he was informed by the FBI about Russian Meddling, he said it couldn’t happen, was no big deal, & did NOTHING about it. When I won it became a big deal and the Rigged Witch Hunt headed by Strzok!" the US President tweeted.
