#EnemyOfNone: Over 300 US news organisations to launch free press campaign on Thursday

Washington, Aug 16 (IBNS): Condemning US President Donald Trump's attacks on American media houses, over 300 such organisations will launch a free press campaign on Thursday.

The initial call was made by The Boston Globe, who had urged others to follow suit. It also floated a hashtag, #EnemyOfNone, on Twitter.

The outlet has said that it wants to confront Trump's 'dirty war' against the media.

Trump in the past has attacked a section of the US media as 'fake news' and an 'enemy of the people'.

The  comments of Trump also drew criticism from New York Times publisher A G Sulzberger, who had urged Trump to refrain from such comments, citing threat against media.

The NYT publisher said in a statement: "...I am far more concerned about his labeling journalists 'the enemy of the people.' I warned that this inflammatory language is contributing to a rise in threats against journalists and will lead to violence."

The Boston Globe has said that it's going to write an editorial 'on the dangers of the administration's assault on the press' and has asked others to do the same.

The newspaper has received overwhelming support from not only American press but from international outlets too. UK's The Guardian has vowed to join the campaign.
