Former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen says US President had prior knowledge about Russia meeting

Washington, July 27 (IBNS): Kicking off another controversy, former lawyer of US President Donald Trump has claimed that the latter knew about the June 2016 Russia meeting.

The alleged meeting took place at the Trump Tower in New York between Trump's aides and a Russian delegation, Michael Cohen said.

Cohen had said that he's willing to testify if needed.

US media have quoted Cohen as saying that the meeting involved Donald Trump Jr., the US President's son; Jared Kushner, his son-in-law; then-campaign chairman Paul Manafort; and Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya.

He said that the meeting was orchestrated with the goal to malign Trump's rival contestant and former First Lady of the State, Hillary Clinton.

Meanwhile, as reports emerged, Trump's lawyer has dismissed the claims.

Rudy Giuliani told NBC that Cohen wasn't credible.

"It's not true," Giuliani said. "Why would you expect it would be true from someone like Cohen? A lawyer who would tape their own client is a lawyer without any character."

Cohen is reportedly under investigation for possible bank and tax fraud, BBC reported. However, he has not been charged officially.
