London/IBNS: British health secretary Sajid Javid has tested positive for coronavirus and is self isolating.

Javid said he has taken both the doses of Covid-19 vaccine and his symptoms are very mild.

According to British government's current rule he will have to be isolated for 10 days unless a PCR test comes back negative and he has no symptoms.

The British health secretary said he felt a "bit groggy" after which he decided to go for a lateral flow test on Saturday that came positive. He has taken a PCR test for confirmation and its results are awaited.

The news of his infection comes at a time when the British government is going to lift most of the Covid-19 restrictions.

However, the coronavirus cases in Britain have started to rise and for the first time since mid-January, the daily cases have crossed 50000, according to an AFP report.

The report said Javed visited 10 Downing Street on Friday but there was no statement whether he met British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who nearly died of Covid last year, the report said.

Last week, Javed was also seen alongside ministers in Parliament, it added
