Ansbach, July 25 (IBNS): A Syrian migrant set off a bomb near an open-air music festival in the German city of Ansbach on Sunday, killing himself and leaving 12 others injured.

The 27-year-old, who arrived in Germany two years ago, was denied asylum last year but was allowed to remain in Germany due to the ongoing conflict in Syria,  Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann was quoted  as saying by DPA.

Authorities  said they are investigating whether it was an act of terrorism.

Following the explosion, 2500 people were reportedly evacuated from the venue of the festival.

This was the third attack in Bavaria which occurred in a week.

In another incident, an axe-wielding teenager had injured few people after he attacked a train in Wuerzburg.
