Iran executes 4 people over alleged links to Israeli intelligence
Four people accused of cooperation with Israel's Mossad intelligence service have been executed in Iran, news agency Fars reported on Friday morning.
Six other defendants in the case have been sentenced to 10 years in prison, the Iranian news outlet said.
Nasser Atabati, chief justice of Iran’s West Azerbaijan province, was cited as saying that the accused were detained on October 24 for identifying Iranian intelligence employees and collecting information via kidnapping, threatening and beating reconnaissance staff.
The detainees conducted the operations in Tehran, and the provinces of Hormozgan and West Azerbaijan and set fire to vehicles and property of the Iranian intelligence workers, the report said, adding that a botched assassination attempt took place on one of the employees.
Iran does not recognize Israel and accuses the Jewish state of sabotage attacks. Earlier this December, a man was executed in Iran on charges of working for Mossad. On December 4, 2022, four people were also executed for Mossad links. According to the Iranian judiciary authority, the four participated in riots against the government which broke out on September 16 throughout Iran after the death of Mahsa Amini in custody of the morality police.
