Liberals win Tory seat in Quebec, Conservatives victorious in Alberta

Montreal/Edmonton, Oct 24 (IBNS): Bringing a sigh of relief to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Liberal candidate Richard Hebert cliched a win in the Tory seat of Quebec in a recent by-election on Monday, media reports said.

Hebert has been serving as the mayor of Dolbeau-Mistassini since 2013.

The Liberals have secured a win in the heartland of Quebec for the first time since 1980, where they have put up their worst show in 2015 election.

The win in the Tory seat will certainly bring a smile on Trudeau's face particularly when he is facing the criticisms for his tax policies.

On Sunday, a protest against Canadian PM Trudeau was organised on the issues of the Liberal government's tax policies and financial dealing with former Guantanamo Bay detainee Omar Khadr.

However, the protest was countered by some demonstrators who had accused the anti-Trudeau group of disguising the rally to support far right and racist views.

On the other hand, Conservative candidate Dane Lloyd have won the by-election in Alberta.

Lloyed (26), a military reservist, won the Sturgeon River-Parkland, west of Edmonton.

However, the Liberals and the New Democratic Party (NDP) have failed to create an impression in the Alberta by-election.

Liberal candidate Brian Gold secured 15.6% of the total votes.

The NDP, which has appointed Jagmeet Singh as its new leader, managed to get only 10% of the total votes.
