Love in the time of war: Ukraine couple tie knot before taking up arms

Kyiv/IBNS: It is the worst of time but a Ukraine couple chose their best moment amid Russian missiles and bombs as they tied the knot and then took up arms to defend their motherland.

In an unusual wedding, Yaryna Arieva and her partner Sviatoslav Fursin tied the knot amidst sounds of air raid sirens.

The couple was earlier scheduled to get married in May but decided to take the vows soon after Russia attacked Ukraine.

“It's the happiest moment of your life, and you go out, and you hear that. That was very scary," Arieva told CNN after her humble wedding at Kyiv's St Michael's monastery.

Soon after their wedding, the couple was snapped holding weapons to fight Russian invasion in Kyiv on Saturday.

Earlier Ukraine President Vladimir Putin urged countrymen to join a military operation in Ukraine to defend their independence.

"The situation is hard. We are going to fight for our land. We maybe can die, and we just wanted to be together before all of that," said Arieva.

In a heart-wrenching note, the couple said they are still uncertain what the future holds for them. "Maybe they (Russia) will just get out from our country and we will have an ability to celebrate normally," Arieva told CNN.
