Miguel DÃaz-Canel takes oath as Cuba President
Havana, Apr 20 (IBNS): Miguel Díaz-Canel has taken oath as the President of Cuba, media reports said.
Miguel has replaced Raúl Castro.
Castro took over the reigns from his ailing brother Fidel in 2006.
Miguel Díaz-Canel was earlier serving as the first vice-president of the nation for the past five years.
"It is the first time since the revolution in 1959 that a Castro is not at the helm of the government," BBC reported.
Miguel Díaz-Canel is considered as a strong alliance of Raúl Castro.
There was "no room in Cuba for those who strive for the restoration of capitalism" he was quoted as saying in his inaugural address as reported by BBC.
Raúl Castro has completed two consecutive five terms in office.
