North Korea has to close 40 of 104 nuclear facilities under denuclearization: Reports

Tokyo, Mar 29 (Sputnik): North Korea has to close 40 of its 104 facilities linked to country’s nuclear program as part of the denuclearization efforts, media reported on Friday.

South Korea has determined 40 facilities, including 15 research centres, eight uranium mines and two uranium enrichment plants as crucial for the denuclearization process and that should be closed, the KBS broadcaster reported citing a document of the South Korean government.

The situation on the Korean Peninsula improved last year with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in having held several meetings.

Kim has also held two meetings with US President Donald Trump, with the parties having reached an agreement in June, stipulating that North Korea would make efforts to promote complete denuclearization of the peninsula in exchange for US-South Korean military drills' freeze and a potential removal of US sanctions.

Pyongyang promised to dismantle the Sohae Satellite Launching Station at Tongchang-ri and the Yongbyon nuclear centre.

According to some media reports, North Korea continues its activities at the two sites.
