A total of 4,213 child abuse cases were reported across Pakistan in 2023, according to a report released by local non-governmental organization Sahil on Friday.

Based on cases reported in 81 national and regional newspapers, data collected by the organization showed that almost 11 children were abused per day in the South Asian country last year.

Among the total reported cases, 2,251 or about 53 percent of victims were girls, while 1,962 or nearly 47 percent were boys, the report showed.

Children were most vulnerable to abuse in the age group of six to 15 years, in which more boys than girls were reported, the report showed.

Moreover, children as young as zero to five years were also sexually abused, it said.

Acquaintances are still the most involved in child sexual abuse, according to the report.
