Pakistan: Imran Khan defiant, says no NRO for opposition

Islamabad/UNI: Taking on the Opposition, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday ruled out the possibility of giving the newly formed opposition alliance called Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) any kind of concession which political pundits believe will give him space to maneuver and possibly help him complete his tenure as prime minister.

As many as 11 opposition parties, led by PML-N came together in Gujranwala on Friday under the aegis of the PDM in an effort to oust Khan's government, accusing of incompetence and having stolen the election with the help of the Pakistan Army, Dawn News reported on Saturday.

Khan said, “It is easy for me to give them [opposition leaders] National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) to rule quietly in the rest of my tenure, but I will not give them any such concession,”

The Prime Minister said the path of progress was not an easy one as one had to make difficult decisions to meet this goal.

He said: “All dacoits are uniting and it is easy for me to pick an easy way by giving them NRO so that I can deliver speeches freely in parliament without any hindrance of the opposition."

"But I will not choose this path,” he added.
