Russian general killed near Kharkiv: Reports

Ukraine's defence ministry has said a top Russian military commander was killed   in a battle on the edge of the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv.

Maj-Gen Vitaly Gerasimov, 41st Army chief of staff, died along with other Russian officers, BBC reported.

Russia did not comment on the issue so far.

Ukraine has begun evacuating civilians from the town of Irpin near Kyiv and the northern city of Sumy, reports BBC.

Russian invaded Ukraine nearly two weeks back.
