Russian jets costs China American sanctions

Washington/Beijing, Sept 21 (IBNS): China has been hit by fresh sanction from the United States of America, after the former purchased several fighter jets from Russia.

According to reports, Beijing had purchased at least 10 Russian Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jets and S-400 missiles from Moscow, which are military fighter jets and surface-to-air missiles respectively.

Sanctioning China, US said that the dealing undermines the latter's sanction against Russia, which were put in place in response to Moscow's transgression in Ukraine and its alleged interference in Washington's policy making.

However, China isn't one of the parties who supported the US action against Russia, which was placed in 2014.

Ever since Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014, its relationship with the US has soured.

It took a fresh hit in 2016, as several sources alleged a Russian interference in the US presidential elections, which was won by Donald Trump.

As per the sanctions, which were placed against China's Equipment Development Department (EDD) and its head, Li Shangfu, their assets in the US are frozen.

Additionally, no US citizens are allowed to do business with them.

The new sanctions are expected to affect another 33 people and groups, who too played a role in the military deal.
