Sri Lankan Prime Minister to visit Delhi next week
During his third visit to Delhi, he is likely to wrap up strategic deals ahead of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Sri Lanka to take part in the UN Vesak Day celebrations to be held in Colombo from May 12 to 14.
An Indian media has reported that Wickramasinghe will be finalizing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)s for joint development of Trincomalee Port to set up a petroleum refinery and a land lease agreement for Lanka Indian oil Corporation (LIOC), which is the Lankan subsidiary of the Indian Oil Corporation.
The LIOC already has 15 tanks in the lower tank farm out of 99 Britain built oil storage tanks in the Trincomalee Port, following an agreement reached in 2003.
The remaining 84 oil storage tanks will be developed under a joint venture, 'The Wire' stated.
The sources have said that India has been keen in developing the oil storage tank farms in the strategically important Trincomalee Port.
