Twenty-seven campers and counsellors, who went to participate in a camp that was hit by a flash flood in the US state of Texas, have died, the organisers of the event confirmed on Monday.

Camp Mystic, a riverside Christian girls' camp in Kerr County, confirmed the fatalities on its website and wrote: "Camp Mystic is grieving the loss of 27 campers and counselors following the catastrophic flooding on the Guadalupe river."

"Our hearts are broken alongside our families that are enduring this unimaginable tragedy. We are praying for them constantly," the organisation said.

According to reports, more than 80 people, including children died, after flash floods hit several regions in Texas last week.

Kerr County remained the worst-hit region in the state.

The official website of Kerr County said the natural calamities left 68  people dead in the region, which included 28 children.

A search operation is currently ongoing in Texas amid reports that the state might experience heavy rains in the next two days.

What is Camp Mystic?

Camp Mystic is a private Christian summer camp for girls.

Established in 1926, Mystic is nestled among cypress, live oak, and pecan trees in the hill country of west-central Texas on the banks of the beautiful Guadalupe River, reads the official website.
