UK Parliament rejects Brexit deal
London, Jan 16 (IBNS): Prime Minister Theresa May has suffered a massive defeat in the Brexit deal as it has been rejected by the country's Parliament by 230 votes.
It is being considered as the greatest defeat by a sitting government in the history of the country.
Britain is scheduled to leave the European Union in the next 73 days.
"MPs voted by 432 votes to 202 to reject the deal, which sets out the terms of Britain's exit from the EU on 29 March," BBC reported.
As per the BBC media report, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has now tabled a vote of no confidence in the government, which could trigger a general election.
The vote is likely to be held on Wednesday.
Theresa May has been negotiating a deal with the EU over the issue for the past two years.
"The plan was aimed at bringing about an orderly departure from the EU on 29 March, and setting up a 21-month transition period to negotiate a free trade deal," BBC reported.
