Ukraine President Zelenskyy says ready to work under Trump's leadership

Volodymyr Zelenskyy has proposed a possible peace plan to end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine by saying that he is ready to work under the 'strong leadership' of US President Donald Trump.

Zelenskyy made the remarks just days after he was engaged in a fiery spat with Trump during their meeting in the White House last week.

In a possible attempt to amend bonds with Washington after Trump paused military aide to Ukraine, Zelenskyy wrote on X: "None of us wants an endless war. Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to bring lasting peace closer. Nobody wants peace more than Ukrainians. My team and I stand ready to work under President Trump’s strong leadership to get a peace that lasts."

He further said: "We are ready to work fast to end the war, and the first stages could be the release of prisoners and truce in the sky — ban on missiles, long-ranged drones, bombs on energy and other civilian infrastructure — and truce in the sea immediately, if Russia will do the same. Then we want to move very fast through all next stages and to work with the US to agree a strong final deal."

He said Ukraine values the USA's contribution in maintaining the country's sovereignity and independence.

"And we remember the moment when things changed when President Trump provided Ukraine with Javelins. We are grateful for this," he said.

Zelenskyy Refers To White House Meeting Debacle

"Our meeting in Washington, at the White House on Friday, did not go the way it was supposed to be. It is regrettable that it happened this way. It is time to make things right. We would like future cooperation and communication to be constructive," Zelenskyy said.

Ukraine Military Aid Paused

The Donald Trump administration has paused military aid to Ukraine, days after President Zelenskyy got involved in a fiery verbal spat with the US President during their meeting in the White House.

“The president has been clear that he is focused on peace,” a White House official told CBS News.

“We need our partners to be committed to that goal as well. We are pausing and reviewing our aid to ensure that it is contributing to a solution,” the official told the news channel.

The US has been a major supplier of weapons to Ukraine since the Russian invasion began in 2022.

However, there has been a shift in the US approach towards the war after President Donald Trump took charge of his office for the second term in January.
