University of Virginia shooting: 3 die, police searching for key suspect

Charlottesville: At least three people died in a shooting incident on the campus of the University of Virginia late on Sunday.

Police are currently searching for the suspect behind the shooting which left two people hurt.

The University of Virginia Police Department identified the suspect as Christopher Darnell Jones, Jr.

Police said the suspect is armed.

"MULTIPLE PD AGENCIES ARE ACTIVELY SEARCHING FOR THE SUSPECT. SUSPECT IS ARMED AND DANGEROUS, SHELTER IN PLACE," the police tweeted.

The police earlier tweeted: "The UVA Police Department is looking for Christopher Darnell Jones regarding the shooting incident that occurred on the grounds of the University of Virginia. Call 911 if seen, do not approach."

University president Jim Ryan earlier tweeted on the incident: "There has been a shooting on Culbreth Road and the suspect is at large and considered armed and dangerous. Please follow @UVA_EM  for updated alerts, as we ask the @UVA community to please shelter in place."
