US border patrol officer killed, partner injured; Trump tweets about building the wall

Washington, Nov 20 (IBNS): Hours after a border agent was killed and another injured in Texas's Big Bend area, US President Donald Trump tweeted about building the 'wall'.

"Border Patrol Officer killed at Southern Border, another badly hurt. We will seek out and bring to justice those responsible. We will, and must, build the Wall!" Trump's tweet read.

Authorities are also searching southern part of Texas for suspects.

The deceased has been identified as Rogelio Martinez, a 36-year-old officer.

His partner, who has not been identified, is reeling in a facility with a severe injury.

They were responding to activity near Interstate 10 in Van Horn, Tex., when they were injured, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection news release said.

Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Elaine Duke said, "On behalf of the quarter of a million frontline officers and agents of DHS, my thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Agent Martinez and to the agent who is in serious condition."

Meanwhile, Jeannette Harper of the FBI’s El Paso field office told the San Antonio Express-News that speculation that the agents were shot were not true.

"They were not fired upon,” Harper said.
