US election: Twitter hides Donald Trump's tweet about 'disappearing' lead, calls it 'misleading'

Washington/IBNS: Microblogging site Twitter on Wednesday hid US President Donald Trump's first tweet of Wednesday (morning in America) amid neck-to-neck fight with Democrat nominee Joe Biden in a tight race for the White House.

Even as the counting of votes is still on, President Trump in a tweet claimed the ballots counting as "strange" and that his vote advantage in key Democrat-run states had "started to magically disappear".

"Last night I was leading, often solidly, in many key States, in almost all instances Democrat run & controlled. Then, one by one, they started to magically disappear as surprise ballot dumps were counted. VERY STRANGE, and the “pollsters” got it completely & historically wrong!" Trump wrote.

Soon after the tweet was posted, Twitter hid the same behind warnings that say the claims are disputed and might be misleading.

Facebook Newsroom also alerted that its Election Operations Center will continue monitoring a range of issues in real time including reports of voter suppression content.

"If we see attempts to suppress participation, intimidate voters, or organize to do so, the content will be removed," it said.

In a post, the social media platform stated: "Once President Trump began making premature claims of victory, we started running notifications on Facebook and Instagram that votes are still being counted and a winner is not projected. We're also automatically applying labels to both candidates’ posts with this information."

Earlier, Twitter took similar action to one of Trump's tweets claiming the Democrats were stealing the country's election as "misleading."

Trump had claimed his victory even before the emergence of a clear picture of who could enter the White House winning the high-pitched Presidential Election.

Addressing a gathering in the White House, Trump said, "We are going to win this election. Frankly, we did win this election."

As per the last update by CNN, Democratic nominee Joe Biden (227 electoral colleges) is ahead of Trump (213 electoral colleges).
