US house resolution now urges Joe Biden to China's Uyghur 'genocide' issue to UN

Washington: US House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Gregory W. Meeks (D-NY) and Ranking Member Michael McCaul (R-TX) introduced a resolution condemning the genocide being committed by the People’s Republic of China (PRC), under the direction and control of the Chinese Communist Party, against the Uyghurs and other ethnic and religious minority groups.

The resolution calls upon President Joe Biden to refer these atrocities to the United Nations for investigation under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, seek multilateral sanctions against the PRC at the U.N. Security Council, and take all possible actions to bring the genocide to an end.

“China’s human rights violations against the Uyghur community in Xinjiang are beyond the pale. The international community needs to stand together and condemn the horrific treatment of China’s ethnic minorities, who have undergone mass detention and seen their way of life threatened by the PRC,” said Chairman Meeks.

“The Chinese Communist Party has been waging genocide for years against their own citizens and have even called the Uyghurs ‘malignant tumors.’ We have a moral obligation to confront genocide anywhere in the world, and I am grateful the Chairman has joined me in this vital effort,” said Ranking Member McCaul.
