US President Donald Trump threatens to stop aid payments to Palestine

Washington, Jan 3 (IBNS): US President Donald Trump has threatened to stop aid payments to Palestinians as they are not 'willing to talk peace'.

He said the US never received 'appreciation or respect' in return for the aid it has provided to Palestine.

In what could be seen as a follow-up to his earlier comment on Pakistan, Trump tweeted: "It's not only Pakistan that we pay billions of dollars to for nothing, but also many other countries, and others. As an example, we pay the Palestinians HUNDRED OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS a year and get no appreciation or respect. They don’t even want to negotiate a long overdue peace treaty with Israel. We have taken Jerusalem, the toughest part of the negotiation, off the table, but Israel, for that, would have had to pay more. But with the Palestinians no longer willing to talk peace, why should we make any of these massive future payments to them?"

On Dec 6, Trump and his administration triggered a massive tension globally when they recognised Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

The move was rejected by the UN General Assembly on Dec 21.
