California, May 21 (IBNS): A gun wielding man was shot and critically wounded by Secret Service agent near a security checkpoint close to the White House on Friday, media reports said.

The official said: "The President has been made aware of the situation."

The WhiteHouse was put under lockdown. It was later lifted at  4 p.m. ET.
