Vehicle crash in Toronto kills one and injures two
York Region Police said that the vehicle probably left the road and struck a wall in Markham around 3 a.m. Friday.
A 17-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene, Police said.
Two other women, 21 and 22 years of age, with life-threatening and serious injuries were transported to hospital.
Firefighters had to remove the roof of the vehicle to rescue the women, who, was trapped inside.
Further details regarding the cause of the collision were still being investigated.
The roadway on the eastbound lane of 14th Avenue approaching Markham Road has always been a concern in the neighbourhood due to the sharp left turn, a resident in the area reported.
“I’ve seen three people make that mistake. They tend to want to go straight when you should veer left slightly. If you’re not paying attention or not familiar with the street you would tend to run off the road,” resident Garnet Knott told Global News.
“If it’s really foggy, you cannot see the road. You have to slowly and cautiously approach it.”
Investigators are at the scene of this collision.
14th Avenue remains closed from Middlefield Road to Markham Road for investigation and is expected to open later this morning, said the police.
Witnesses are requested to come forward to speak with police.
