Alka Jalan Foundation presents Bhaav O Bandish in Kolkata
Kolkata, June 18 (IBNS): Alka Jalan Foundation presented Bhaav O Bandish featuring Sohini Roy Chowdhury recently in Kolkata.
The program started with a poem composed and recited by Akshita Gupta befitting the occasion.
Sohini started her recital with a Thumri in Raag Kamaj entitled Chhabi Dikhlaja Banke Savariya which was based on biraha of Radha for Sri Krishna potrayed with lot of emotion as mentioned by the audience.
Then she sang an original Punjabi Tappa in raag Kafi O Miya Ve Janevale Tanum.
Her next presentation was a Kajri in Raag Desh called Sawana Mase aayo Sajani. The song is sung in the monsoons.
Then she sang a Jhoola entitled Jhoola Dheere Se Jhulao Banwari.re sawariya.
Her next was a famaous Dadra Deewana Kiya Shyam Kya Jadu Dara., which reminded the audience of Padmabibhushan Girja Devi.
Then she sang Rangi Sari Ghulabi chunariya Re on request by the audience.
She also sang a Hori dadra in Raag Sohini entitled Hori meye khelungi Unso. The audeince prasied with applauses.
She concluded with Chalare Pardesiya Naina Lagake in Raag Bhairavi.

Sohini is a classical vocalist trained by Pandit A. Kanan and Ustad Sagiruddin Khan in Kirana Gharana .
She also has a rich repertoire of Thumri, Dadra, Kajri, Hori, and other semi-classical forms from Dalia Rahut in Benaras Gharana. Sohini is niece of R. D Burman , granddaughter of Shyamal Sen on paternal side and great granddaughter of Kanto Kabi Rajanikato Sen on the maternal side.
