E-mails can't invoke the passion in letter writing, miss that era : Tanmoy Bose

Kolkata, Dec 5 (IBNS) Ridden with nostalgia, percussionist Tanmoy Bose rues the present times when letter writing has become passe along with the power to think and feel .

"I still remember the days when we would wait for the all important letter from the close relatives to be delivered by the dak peon, A mail will never ever be able to add this personal touch," Bose told IBNS after releasing the album Ekta Chithi here.

Pointing out emotions are welled up within lines of a letter, Bose said, "In a letter the particular mood or state of mind, while writing some line, is fraught within the phrase and as we go through the contents we share the feeling of the writer.

"In formal e-mails the typing of key board is stripped of that feeling and is always matter-of-fact. It lacks the emotional quotient."

Bose, who recalled his letter writing experience 21 years back during a stint in England, saed he enjoyed reading still kept, old letters.

"It was a unique phase during our days. Of reading, painting. clicking pictures, of singing, pursuing music, Our children will never feel it the same way.

To a question about whether he wrote love letters or helped as mediator in his childhood, teenage days, the artist said with glint in eyes, "That's a best kept secret."

Bose, who launched the Ekta Chiti - collage of poem-song album penned by a corporate executive - says only Bengal feels such artistic engagement in expression.
