Kolkata/IBNS: Fr. (Dr.) J. Felix Raj, SJ, Vice Chancellor, St. Xavier’s University of Kolkata, announced several upcoming programmes to be undertaken by the university in the coming months.

The University has decided to set up the second girls’ hostel in its Rajarhat-New Town campus, which will accommodate around three hundred students.

This will primarily be for welcoming and facilitating the enhancing requirement for quality higher education among girls, especially from the distant and rural areas, said Fr. Raj.

He also announced that the University has pioneered in initiating online teaching learning process among the institutions of higher learning in the country in response to the changed campus situation due to Covid-19 pandemic and successfully conducted the same, and wants to share this best practice with other institutions, free of cost.

As a part of Jesuit Value Education and commitment to InterFaith Studies, the University is going to open a new School of Philosophy and Religion, and both religious and laity will be able to study here.

The Vice Chancellor also announced that the University is going to start MA in Psychology Courses from the forthcoming academic year, i.e., 2021-22.

The course will have two specializations, such as, Clinical Psychology and Organizational Psychology.

In the recently held Second Convocation at its campus in Rajarhat-New Town, a total of 451 students graduating from the University received their degrees.

The University followed a blended mode keeping the pandemic situation in mind -- i.e., both virtually as well as through the physical presence of the awardees.

Governor of West Bengal, Jagdeep Dhankhar, presided over the Convocation Ceremony.

The Guest-of-Honour for the Convocation was Dr. Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay, Director, Indian Statistical Institute, who delivered the Convocation Address on ‘The Leadership Role of University Students in India Today’.

Fr. Raj also announced that the Fifth Foundation Day of the St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata, will be observed on February 8, 2021 in a befitting manner, keeping all pandemic protocols in mind.
